One of my favorite Architecture and Engineering projects in the world. The High Line is the result of great urban design, engineering, landscape architecture and horticulture.
This abandoned rail line was re-purposed and retrofitted to dynamic mix of public spaces that serves as a connector threading its way across the west side in New York City. The elevated view gives a unique perspective of the city. Primarily due to its integration of hardscapes and landscapes yet keeping its historic preservation alive. This has inspired developers and urban planners to re-purpose dormant infrastructure as dynamic public spaces all over the world.
It is bold and forward thinking. This elevated park not only is a great way to commute to your destination, but it is one itself. Public events, performances, fashion shows, gardening lessons, fitness activities, art installations, film screenings, pop up shops are serviced here. These turn into public facing events that makes it a unique outdoor experience.
The High Line was a collaboration with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, James Corner (Field Operations), garden designer Piet Oudolf and the people of New York City.
